Product description

Bisabolol is an oil-soluble cosmetic active valued for its soothing, calming and skin-conditioning properties. It occurs naturally in chamomile and candeia essential oils, although cosmetic grades may also be manufactured synthetically.

Bisabolol helps reduce the appearance of redness and discomfort associated with dry, sensitive or stressed skin. It supports softer, smoother skin and is particularly suitable for formulations intended for sensitive skin, after-sun care, shaving, depilation and baby-care products. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review concluded that Bisabolol is safe as used in cosmetic formulations.

Formulation instructions

• Add to the oil phase or dissolve in an appropriate oil-soluble carrier.

• For heat-sensitive formulations, add during the cool-down phase, preferably below 40°C.

• For water-based products, incorporate Bisabolol using a suitable solubiliser or emulsifying system.

• Compatible with most cosmetic oils, esters, emollients, ethanol and hydrocarbon-based ingredients.

• Bisabolol may increase the skin penetration of other ingredients, so care is required when combining it with highly active or potentially irritating substances.
